Personality Lie

Personality tests are the best way to identify a career path; however, many people confuse themselves with their values. Everyone enjoys sharing Myers and Briggs test results. There are so many priests and nuns everywhere. Maybe I was more honest as someone who should be an artist and scientist with a PhD; however, it wasn't long before realizing results were produced by thinking of the person I wanted to be, not real reactions. Being an artist is an aspiration. The Strong Interests Inventory confirms this information.

Interests direct a person's life. Individuals make decisions on what seems right. This is the basis of Strong Interests Inventory. Myers and Briggs asks successful people if the like their job to match similar people to a career. This is the premise of the test anyway. However, it doesn't help the person or scientists select answers understood to be correct.

Taking it again, after various signs of extroverted behavior, it was important for me to find the real answer after a few years of suffocating jobs that should make me happy. It takes times to reminisce and think back to similar events. However, there are no time limits and the results will be far more accurate.

It is unnerving being honest. What if I am like my Mother or judgmental? What if the recommended job is lame or outside my comfort zone? These tests are not about putting people down. They are likely to confirm what you already knew. As a teen in college, I liked the idea of being an entertainer, like a visual artist or a model. Complications with self-denial and worry delayed progress. My personality is ENTP, if you were wondering.

Now everything has changed. Working in a job I enjoy doesn't take extra effort. Confusion created a self destructive cycle of working and quitting. Realizing a vocation would have created an obvious path, spending less time trying to be someone else.

The Strong Interests Inventory confirmed another thought I already knew was true. It confirmed having strong interests in art. The only job for 100% artistic inclination is being a clown. This information can be confirmed by anyone who has ever met me. It is amazing how pieces of paper confirm what everyone knows.

I built a lie detector for my seventh grade science fair project and learned a lot about lying. Lie detectors measure stress related to telling a lie. However, if the person believes what they are saying is true the lie detector does not notice an absence of stress related guilt. Believing what another person said was true creates lies we truly believe. However, the lies we tell ourselves are the most destructive.
